Telfort Study Abroad Program 2011
I had the honor to lecture for Telfort’s Study Abroad Program during the 2010-2011 Academic Year’s Spring Semester. I taught a large group of American college students from different universities the following subjects:
· International Trade (ECON205)
I emphasized both theoretical models and empirical studies of how well those models fit “real world” situations, with a special focus on China-US trade issues.
· International Business Management (BUS271)
Students analyzed international business models and practices with extensive use of articles and business cases of multinationals in China.
I found that the students were very interested to learn how things work in China and liked to be able to compare this with what they experience in the US. I believe the students left my classes and the program in general with a greater appreciation, not only for China and how things operate there, but also a better understanding of how the Chinese and American economies and systems can benefit from increased communication and understanding.
The program organization created many opportunities outside of class for me to interact with the students in a constructive manner. I was able to join in many of the experiences that were included in the course on Chinese Culture. I also was invited by the students to join in their “Peer-Mentor-Buddy Program” activities.
As a teacher, but above all as a person whose life has been changed and enriched by international academic and professional experiences, I would like to encourage all students to take advantage of an opportunity such as Telfort’s to study abroad for at least one semester
