Buddy Program

All study abroad students will participate in the Peer Mentor/Buddy Program.  Students will meet each other at the orientation session.  English speaking Chinese students will assist study abroad students with various acculturation experiences throughout the study abroad experience.  In particular they will act as a Shanghai mentor, helping participants learn about the city, and the Chinese language as spoken in Shanghai.  The opportunity should exist for the Peer-Mentor-buddy to welcome the study abroad student into their home for a meal or two – especially during holidays or long weekends, as well as participate in any organized activities.  Study abroad students will be encouraged to share their culture  and native language with their Chinese “Buddy.”.  The paired students will be required to participate in a few informal presentations during the study abroad semester.  At the end of the semester, each pair will be responsible for a final formal presentation that focuses on their shared experiences.
